PETALING JAYA, Sept 21 – Ziyad Zolkefli broke his shot putt Asean Para Games record with a throw of 16.81m in the men’s F20 (learning disability) on Thursday.
He bettered the record by more than one metre as his previous record was 15.69m set in Myanmar in 2014.
He also holds the World record of 17.29m which he set in the World Para Athletics Championships in London in July. And he set the Rio Paralympics record of 16.83m last year.
The 27-year-old was delighted with his efforts as he holds four records – Asean, Asian, Paralympics and World.
“It feels fantastic to hold four records and also win four golds at the Asean, Asia, Paralympics and world.
“I feel on top of the world and I am really proud of my success,” said Ziyad, who won his fourth consecutive Asean Para Games gold medal.
He made his debut in 2011 in Indonesia by winning gold before he broke the Asean record in Myanmar. – The Star
