KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 – Three DAP MPs have filed a motion against Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia (pic), demanding that he withdraw a threat made against them last week.
Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Beruas) said the speaker had no power to threaten them as their call for him to resign was made outside the Dewan Rakyat.
He was referring to Pandikar’s statement last week where he threatened to take action against Ngeh, Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping) and V Sivakumar (DAP-Batu Gajah) for demanding the speaker’s resignation after he rejected their questions on state investment firm 1MDB.
“I have been advised by our lawyer that the speaker has no power whatsoever to take action against the three of us.
“If he is of the opinion that we have defamed him, then he should file a defamation suit.
“We hope he will withdraw the threat as he has no such power (to take action),” Ngeh said at a press conference at the media centre in Parliament.
He said a motion had been filed under Standing Order 18, demanding that Pandikar withdraw his letter seeking an apology from them.
In a joint statement on March 7, the MPs had demanded for Pandikar’s resignation for refusing to allow discussions on 1MDB in Parliament.
Pandikar subsequently said he would take action against the lawmakers if they did not apologise for their remarks.
