KOTA BHARU, March 19 – Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has not ruled out the possibility of efforts undertaken to topple Barisan Nasional with foreign assistance.
He said there are certain parties who are willing to see the country become unstable.
“I do not dismiss the possibility of certain parties who are willing to use external powers to undermine our position.
“But what important is that we take care of our household, no one can affect us if we are united,” he said at a press conference here, yesterday.
He was commenting on the speech of Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who claimed that there are parties who are using foreign powers against BN during a ceremah in Selangor yesterday night.
On separate matter on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remarks that the sacking of his then deputy, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was encouraged by the police, Hishammuddin said he was not surprised.
“I do not know how many more U-turn statement he (Tun M) wants to make when the person who was directly involved in the incident had denied his words.
“It is hard for the people to believe in him. At the end, Malaysians can make own judgment, this is just attempt to achieve short-term goal,” he said.
On the candidate nomination for the coming general election, Hishammuddin said the list would announce by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Most have been screened and I see the agreement of the respective state Umno liaison chairman,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin, who is also the Defence minister, said his ministry would launch a housing blueprint for Malaysian Armed Forces in the near future. He pledged the blueprint would provide more for facilities under the Armed Forces’ Family Housing (AFFH) to the army.
He said this was was proof that the government was concerned with the welfare of the soldiers. “Under the plan, 40,627 houses will be built nationwide, including the 9,096 that already under construction.
“Construction of the remaining units will be conducted in phases till it is completed in 2030,” he said after launching 384 AFFH houses at Taman Pahlawan.
Elaborating further, Hishammuddin said defence ministry would build more affordable houses nationwide under the “Satu Anggota, Satu Rumah” programme within the next five years.
