JOHOR BARU, May 21 – Johor Umno has decided that all posts within the party, including that of president, must be contested during its election this year, said party state chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic).
He said Johor Umno was thankful for the contributions of former president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, but members must be allowed to choose leaders they believe can push through changes from within.
He said the party election was the only way for Umno to carry out much needed reforms and to show its commitment to change.
“In our meeting, Johor Umno agreed all posts must be contested because this is important for the party,” he said after chairing the state meeting held here on Monday (May 21).
In an unrelated matter, Mohamed Khaled said Johor Umno would be closely watching the new state government led by Pakatan Harapan.
He said they had unanimously decided that Pontian Umno division chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad should be appointed Johor Opposition chief.
Mohamed Khaled also reminded the new state government to be responsible especially in terms of bringing development to Johor.
“When Barisan Nasional was the state government here, we already provided free water to targeted groups and Johor was already on its way to achieve its target of having 60,000 affordable houses by 2020.
“Pakatan promises to build 100,000 affordable homes in Johor, but I do hope they do not count the ones built by Barisan,” he said. – The Star
