PETALING JAYA, Aug 12 – MISC-MIFA are keeping their feet firmly on the ground despite being the shock leaders of Group C in the Malaysia Cup.
The club side chalked up their second win in the group with a 2-0 victory over Kelantan at the MBPJ Stadium on Friday with goals from Liberian hitman Kpah Sherman in the 25th minute and J. Satrunanin the 74th .
The Malaysia Cup debutants kicked off their Cup campaign with a shock 2-1 win over defending champions and five-time Super League winners Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Aug 5.
MISC-MIFA coach K. Devan said that his side are still the underdogs and they are just focused on playing their best football.
We’re also very firm with our objective in the competition, where we want to play good football and learn from the experience playing against the country’s top teams,” said Devan yesterday.
“We have a number of youngsters in the team and they’re all hungry to prove that they can play well. They just need guidance and I can see that they have improved tremendously.
“We aim to play good football and I’m glad that we’re getting the win from good football.”
Commenting on the win over Kelantan, Devan said that the team did well without two of their key players – defender P. Rajesh is injured while their on-loan striker L’Imam Seydi could not be fielded against his parent team.
“We defended well as a team, the boys kept the discipline and I think we were the better team as we created more chances and we deserve the win,” he said.
MISC-MIFA now top the table after six points from two wins, while JDT are second with three points after thrashing Kedah 5-1 in Larkin.
JDT’s goals were scored by Fer nando Marquez (13th), Natxo Insa (47th), Ahmad Hazwan Bakri (71st), Gonzalo Cabrera (82nd) and S. Kunalan (90th+1) while Kedah’s consolation goal came via Sandro Mendonca (35th).
