PUTRAJAYA, Aug 14 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has detained a former Kedah state assemblyman to facilitate its probe into misappropriation of funds amounting to RM30,000 from the Menteri Besar’s special allocation.
The Datuk, in his 60s, was arrested around 4pm on Monday at the Kedah MACC headquarters when he came to give his statement.
Sources said the former assemblyman had asked for the funds in February last year to organise a programme. However, it is learnt that he did not use the funds for the intended purpose after it was approved.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director, Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad, confirmed the arrest.
It is understood that the suspect will be brought to the Alor Star magistrate’s court on Tuesday for remand proceedings. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
