KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 – MCA incumbent deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong has secured the party’s top post during the party election today.
As of 11.30pm, Wee is ahead of his contenders, former party vice president Gan Ping Sieu and Beruas MCA Youth chairman Ngoo Teck Keong.
The party has yet to announce the official numbers as the counting process were still ongoing at several polling centres.
In the meantime, the post of party deputy president was won by Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon who defeated Johor MCA deputy chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong. The official count on this has yet to be announced.
Wee, when met at Wisma MCA attributed his win to grassroots’ support and trust.
“From the early results, Mah and I have won but we will wait for the official announcement.
“However, I consider this win an endorsement and a boost to our spirits.
“I hope the new team chosen will be ready to face heavy responsibility given by the grassroots to return MCA to its glory,”
Meanwhile, the counting process for the four vice president posts were still ongoing and expected to be available in the morning.
It was learnt that 66.27 per cent of the 35,000 voters had cast their votes today to select a new MCA line-up.
