REMBAU, Nov 6 – Umno rejects any attempt to undermine Malay supremacy.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party was against the government’s decision to ink the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which would challenge the rights and privileges of Malays, Bumiputera rights and the royal institution.
“For more than 70 years, Umno has defended the rights of the Malays, the Malay Rulers, Islam as the religion of the federation and the Malay language as the national language,” he said at a meet and greet session with Umno leaders in Rantau, here, today.
“When Pakatan Harapan took over the Federal Government, they wanted to deny the rights of Malay supremacy in the Constitution.
“Never interfere with the Constitution, do not touch on Islam, Malay Rulers, do not disturb the rights of the Malays and do not touch on (the status of) Bahasa Melayu as the national language.
“If other religions want to be practised, go ahead, but do not disturb what is in the Constitution.
“We do not ask for more and just defend what is written in the Constitution.” He reminded Umno members to remain united to revive the party.
Present were Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, and Umno vice-presidents Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
