KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 – New faces now make up 60 per cent of the MCA lineup and 17.5 per cent of the main committee members are female.
Terengganu state liaison Chew Sir Boon, 27, is the youngest.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who announced the appointment of Datin Chew Mei Fun as the first woman secretary-general of the party, said it was high time to pass the baton to youths and women as they were the future.
“It’s time for us to realise that the young, given the right guidance, will be able to do what’s best for the country,” he said at the MCA headquarters here today.
“Nicole Wong created history by becoming the first female Youth chief this year.
“We have also established a new media bureau and Malay-speaking bureau to ensure that everyone is represented in our party.”
